I decided to take a break from shooting other surfers and focus on myself this week. Over the past two weeks I've been having some issues with my gear. My still camera broke, was sent out, fixed and returned broke, thanks guys!. The wires on my housing popped out again and missing this swell sitting on the beach taking photos for a few bucks was not an option, I was on it with my Gopro! lol!
My good friend Jen hooked me up with a GoPro camera last year from North Face in New York City. She got me a great deal and I have been waiting to use it for a long time now. Something about shooting yourself surfing really turns my off. I think it's a bit of a joke capturing yourself rather then this perfect wave your riding. Maybe shooting the same angle over and over again freaks me out, how many times can you shoot a POV video of yourself? It's played out. Well call me a sell out I finally used it and it was a freaking blast! Click here to watch video on the Youtube Channel.
I spent Monday with my daughter placing the mounting on my board. Mid week South Florida was expecting a good North East ground swell with a punch so I mounted the camera on my 9 foot Stewart LSP and timed a jaw dropping morning perfectly at Kite Beach in Juno Beach. The waves were about 4--5ft with some bigger head high sets with perfect wind until 12 noon. It was warm I wore my patagonia vest and a pair of baggies. The surf had some size to it and the walls were long and workable. It was such a freaking blast and a day I will remember for a long time.
Check out this 3 minute video of me surfing, I kept it simple, no music or fancy editing tricks. Just me being a HERO with my Gopro and enjoying my Atlantic Surf Life!
