Atlantic Surf Life recently had the chance to interview New Smyrna Beach local and Atlantic Coast Lost Pilot, Aaron (Gorkin) Cormican. I know what your thinking.... another Florida surfer? Well why not? This ASL surfer might be the best on the East Coast! So come on "in the Shack,” crack open a cold beer and chill! This is “In The Shack” with Gorkin.
If your at NSB Inlet, you will definately notice him! Just look for the surfer getting high with his board, wearing rasta colors and riding the Lost surfboard. He’s one of the best Air Surfers to come out of the East Coast and is on his way to breaking the highest Facebook status record in the world. Just kidding about the Facebook stuff, but his status updates are very unique! Gorkin, a Florida native, has been winning contests and claiming peaks in and on the Atlantic Coast line since 2003. He might even have a chance to enter the ASP contest coming up in September in New York, which should be interesting. Gorkin is also the inventor of the "Gorkin Flip" a backside double grab inverted 360 air. The first legit flip ever landed, and he did it in a contest, reported on Wikipedia.com. Gorkin recently won Quicksilver’s King of the Peak at Sebastian Inlet claiming his spot in East Coast history. Gorkin joins a list of great surfers like, Kelly Slater, CJ Hobgood, David Speir, Justin Jones and many others to hold the King of The Peak Title. He also won the Volcom Seacow held at Sebastian Inlet, Florida recently and is on top of his game heading out to Cali for the summer.
